Socially Conscious Program

OT for America

In addition to our typical school staffing positions, we now offer a socially conscious option: OT for America Program. The OT for America Program is transforming therapy access in schools, bridging gaps, and empowering students to succeed through committed, skilled, and compassionate occupational therapists. Join us to make a lasting impact in New York City’s most underserved communities.

Mission and Vision

The OT for America Program is dedicated to addressing therapy service gaps in underserved schools. We aim to close the opportunity gap for students with disabilities, empowering them to achieve success through accessible, high-quality occupational therapy services in New York City’s public schools.

Program Goals

  • Provide Equitable Access: Ensure all students, especially in under-resourced areas, receive essential occupational therapy.
  • Empower OTs as Advocates: Position therapists as both service providers and advocates who support students’ holistic development.
  • Create Lasting Change: Foster inclusive school environments and address educational inequities directly.

Recruitment of Dedicated Occupational Therapists

We partner with universities to recruit passionate occupational therapists who are not only trained in clinical skills but also in:

  • Leadership and Advocacy
  • Cultural Competency

This specialized training prepares therapists to advocate for students’ rights and tackle unique challenges in high-need schools.

In-service Training and Trauma-Informed Care

Our training focuses on:

  • Educational Equity Advocacy – OTs learn to address disparities in service access.
  • Trauma-Sensitive Strategies – Therapists are equipped to provide emotionally supportive care for students affected by trauma.
  • Collaborative Mental Health Support – Partnering with school staff to build comprehensive support systems for students.

Career Growth and Leadership Development

The program encourages professional advancement through:

  • Two-Year Fellowship Commitment – Therapists gain career-building experience while providing critical student support.
  • Alumni Network – Graduates continue to benefit from mentorship, professional development, and leadership opportunities.

Impact Stories and Community Building

We highlight the real-life stories of our OTs who have made a difference, such as helping students overcome challenges and achieve growth, fostering a sense of purpose and community among our therapists and attracting those who are committed to making an impact.

Commitment to Underserved Schools

By placing therapists in high-need schools, we directly address educational inequities, working with families and educators to ensure every student receives the support they need.

Supervision and Clinical Quality

  • Supervisors: Support new therapists through caseload management, compliance monitoring, and mentoring.
  • Clinical Managers: Provide ongoing professional support and resources, ensuring therapists deliver top-quality services.
  • Continuous Development: Access to ASHA, AOTA, and APTA resources for ongoing skills development.
